As the paddock gears up for one of the most historic races on the calendar, the updated Silverstone track map for the 2026 British Grand Prix has officially been released.
Just as we saw with the recent updated Barcelona track map, the traditional DRS zones are a thing of the past. Formula 1's revolutionary 2026 regulations bring active aerodynamics and heavy electrical deployment to the forefront. Here is a breakdown of how the new active aero and overtaking systems will be deployed around the legendary Northamptonshire circuit.

Under the 2026 ruleset, the standard DRS is replaced by Straight Mode (also referred to as X-Mode). This active aerodynamic state trims both the front and rear wings to drastically reduce drag and boost top speed. Crucially, this mode is available to every driver on every lap, regardless of the gap to the car ahead.

Silverstone is renowned for its high-speed nature, and the FIA is leaning into that by designating a massive four Straight Mode zones around the lap:
Zone 1: The iconic Hamilton Straight (pit straight), stretching from the exit of Turn 18 all the way down to Turn 1 (Abbey).
Zone 2: The Wellington Straight, spanning from Turn 5 (Aintree) down into the heavy braking zone of Turn 6 (Brooklands).
Zone 3: The short burst out of Turn 7 (Luffield) heading toward Turn 8 (Woodcote) and the terrifyingly fast Copse corner.
Zone 4: The legendary Hangar Straight, deploying out of Turn 14 (Chapel) down to Turn 15 (Stowe), which also houses the official Speed Trap.
With four low-drag zones, average lap speeds at Silverstone will be breathtaking, putting a massive premium on the drivers' ability to confidently shed and re-engage aerodynamic downforce.

While Straight Mode is for everyone, true passing power comes from the Manual Override mode (labeled simply as Overtake). This system gives a chasing car a significant boost of electrical energy from the new hybrid power units to help close the gap on a leading car.
The updated map highlights exactly where this critical system comes into play:
Overtake Detection: Placed just before Turn 17 (the entry to the Vale chicane). Drivers must be within the designated time gap here to earn their electrical override allocation.
Overtake Activation: Positioned immediately before Turn 18 (Club corner).
By placing the activation point right as the cars navigate the final corner and dump out onto the main pit straight, the FIA has guaranteed massive slipstream battles heading into Abbey.
Combined with the confidence of Lewis Hamilton following his historic first Ferrari victory and a highly competitive grid, these new zones promise an incredibly tactical and high-speed British Grand Prix.
