Former Red Bull Formula 1 driver Daniil Kvyat remains firmly interested in securing a place on the Formula E grid, with the upcoming Gen4 era sharpening his focus on a potential return to single-seater racing.
Although the 31-year-old has yet to compete in a Formula E race, he has become a familiar presence in the paddock in recent years, participating in multiple rookie tests and practice outings.
Kvyat first sampled Formula E machinery during the 2023 Berlin rookie test with NIO 333 Racing. He later drove for DS Penske in 2025 and returned to the team for last month’s test in Madrid.
Despite those opportunities behind the wheel, a full-time race seat has so far failed to materialise. Nevertheless, his interest has not diminished.
In an exclusive interview with RacingNews365, Kvyat made clear that while his immediate future remains open, Formula E continues to hold strong appeal.
"Well, generally, my plans for next year are quite open at the moment. This year, I’m racing in Japan [in Super GT], and I’m still a Lamborghini factory driver—that’s my main job.
I have other things going on, but yes, I’ve always said that Formula E is something I’m open to with the right opportunity and the right mindset. It’s something interesting, especially now with Gen4—a more downforce-driven car—which would make even more sense."
For 2026, Kvyat’s primary focus is his Super GT campaign in Japan, where he competes for JLOC in a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2. His factory role with Lamborghini remains his central commitment this season.
While a Formula E return is not currently on the cards, the arrival of Gen4 appears to have strengthened his curiosity about the championship’s future technical direction.
Over the past two years, Kvyat has developed a strong relationship with Stellantis. However, he confirmed there are no current plans for him to test its upcoming Gen4 machinery.
As for a potential race seat, discussions have taken place within the paddock, though nothing concrete has emerged.
"I know a lot of people around this paddock, and obviously talks are one thing—people talk, and I talk with people, and that’s normal. We’ll see what opportunities may arise in the future."
For now, Kvyat’s Formula E ambitions remain just that — ambitions. But with Gen4 on the horizon and his options open beyond 2026, the door is not closed.
