Ferrari has arrived at Formula 1’s Barcelona Grand Prix with its most substantial SF-26 development package since Miami, introducing changes across eight areas of the car as it attempts to reassert itself in the fight with Mercedes.
The timing is significant. Ferrari delivered its previous major update at the Miami GP in early May, then chose to focus on optimising its existing specification through Montreal and Monaco. Since then, Mercedes has introduced a major upgrade in Montreal, while McLaren also brought the second part of its first large update. Barcelona now marks Ferrari’s response.

The upgrade is extensive and clearly centred on aerodynamic performance. Ferrari has revised the front wing footplate with a new vane arrangement, added an endplate diveplane, and optimised the spanwise loading distribution of the wing elements.
There are also changes around the nose and straight mode system, with new mechanism links integrated into the nose and a revised nose shape featuring a raised lower surface. That area is particularly relevant at Barcelona, where teams are already focused on Straight Mode usage and balance demands, as outlined in our Barcelona Grand Prix storyline preview.

Ferrari has also altered the floor body, floor board and floor edge, alongside a re-profiled diffuser sidewall cutout. The diffuser package includes an updated winglet angle of attack and a revised diffuser/tail expansion profile. In simple terms, the floor has been wholly revised with the aim of adding aerodynamic load.
The bodywork has been adapted around that philosophy too, with an inflated sidepod shoulder and adjusted cokeline designed to work with the new front-end and floor architecture.
This is not simply a technical update; it is a competitive necessity. Ferrari is trying to reduce a 79-point deficit to Mercedes in the constructors’ championship, while Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc face gaps of 66 points and 81 points respectively to Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli in the drivers’ standings.
Leclerc made clear before the weekend that development could be decisive: "The development will play such an important role that it's important that this goes well, and if it goes well, everything is possible."

But he also acknowledged the scale of the task: "Surely we must not lose too much time because Kimi is doing everything perfect so far and then to go and catch up all the points that he's taking at the moment is going to be a very challenging task, even if we end up having the fastest car at one point."
Leclerc added: "Kimi is doing an incredible job and Mercedes has done an incredible job but I don't give up yet."
Ferrari is not alone in updating at Barcelona. McLaren has introduced a revised front wing endplate, Mercedes has added small winglets to the centreline of its rear wing, and Red Bull has revised its front wing element geometries, increasing front flap camber to widen the available balance range.
For Ferrari, however, this Barcelona package carries more weight: it must deliver correlation, load and a clearer route back into contention.
