Formula E has officially unveiled its Gen4 race car, marking a pivotal shift in the championship's trajectory as it prepares for the upcoming 2026/27 regulatory cycle. The new machine serves as a definitive "statement of intent," underscoring the series' ambition to establish itself as the fastest single-seater category on the planet.
The technical specifications of the Gen4 represent a significant leap forward, narrowing the performance gap to Formula 1. With top speeds exceeding 335 km/h (208 mph) and a blistering 0–100 km/h (0–60 mph) acceleration time of approximately 1.8 seconds, the car is projected to outperform current Formula 2 machinery and sit only a few seconds off the pace of Formula 1 cars.

The Gen4 is the largest, longest, and most powerful vehicle in the history of the championship. Compared to the current Gen3 Evo, power output has surged by 70%, with the car capable of delivering 600 kW in full attack mode and during qualifying duels.
“GEN4 isn’t just a car, it's a bold declaration of our ambition,” said Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds. “Seeing what it can do on track for the first time is a real milestone for Formula E - we are now delivering performance levels that were thought impossible for electric vehicles just five years ago.”

Dodds emphasized that the car is currently in the hands of manufacturers—Porsche, Jaguar, Stellantis, Nissan, Lola Cars, and Mahindra—who are tasked with refining the platform to push performance limits further ahead of its racing debut later this year. “Gen4 isn’t just an evolution, it’s a step-change in innovation and performance that will redefine motorsport for years to come,” he added.
The development of the Gen4 is viewed by the FIA as a new global benchmark for electric racing, blending performance with sustainability and road relevance.
“The new GEN4 Formula E car marks a significant step forward for electric racing, setting a new global benchmark for performance, innovation, and sustainability,” stated FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem. “It is not simply just a fast car, it is a statement of intent about the future of this technology. We are redefining what is possible alongside some of the world’s biggest automotive manufacturers using the laboratory of motorsport.”
As the championship moves toward the 2026/27 season, the Gen4 stands as a testament to the rapid evolution of electric vehicle technology and the collaborative efforts of the series' major automotive partners.
