While Kimi Antonelli took the headlines with a historic win, Charles Leclerc provided the tactical masterclass of the afternoon. The Monegasque driver admitted to being "surprised" after nursing his Ferrari SF-26 to a third-place finish, surviving a strategic curveball that threatened to derail his entire race.
Leclerc's afternoon was going according to plan until Lap 22. Having just bolted on a fresh set of Hard (C1) tyres, the race was neutralized by a Safety Car following Ollie Bearman's high-G shunt at Spoon.
The timing was disastrous for Maranello. It effectively wiped out Leclerc's pit-stop advantage and shuffled him into a high-pressure sandwich between the two charging Mercedes cars of Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton.
"It was a bit of a sweaty one, this one," Leclerc remarked after the podium ceremony. "With the safety car, we got a little bit unlucky. I knew I was on the back foot, especially compared to Kimi and Lewis."

Forced to pivot, Leclerc had to balance extreme defensive driving with delicate tyre management. Under the 2026 regulations, where active aero loads can be unpredictable for tyre temperature, Leclerc feared his rubber would hit a "thermal cliff" before the 53-lap mark.
However, the Hard compound proved remarkably resilient. "I was like, 'okay, let's keep pushing, let's try to keep those tyres and bring them to the end,'" Leclerc explained. "Actually, it wasn't as much of a disadvantage as I thought. The tyres were actually pretty good."
Despite his defensive heroics against a late-charging George Russell, Leclerc conceded that he simply didn't have the machinery to chase down Oscar Piastri. The McLaren driver finished 1.5 seconds ahead of the Ferrari, having maintained a consistent pace advantage throughout the final stint.
"It was quite a fun race, just not quite enough to get Oscar," Leclerc admitted. "But it was a cool race."
