Williams F1 test and development driver Victor Martins has set his sights on a transition to the all-electric Formula E championship, with the upcoming Gen4 era serving as a primary catalyst for his ambition.
The 24-year-old Frenchman, who currently competes for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship, has established himself as a consistent presence in Formula Eâs rookie testing and practice programs. Having built a strong working relationship with Nissanâthe only manufacturer he has represented in the seriesâMartins is now actively pursuing a full-time seat on the grid for next season.

The Gen4 car, which was officially unveiled at Circuit Paul Ricard, has generated significant buzz among drivers. For Martins, the technical leap represented by this new generation is a major draw.
âFor sure, the goal is to see if there is a spot and if I can get an opportunity in Formula E for a full-time seat,â Martins told RacingNews365. âIt's a series that I'm looking at. Also, the new Gen4 is very exciting â when you see the car and pictures and videos, the power that the car has, the downforce, because it will be much more than now, and the tyres are changing; it's a completely new generation.â
Martins, whose career has been defined by single-seater competition, emphasized that the performance profile of the Gen4 machine is exactly what attracts him to the championship. âAs a driver, having done mostly single-seaters in my career until this year, when you look at a car like this, you want to race it,â he added.

Martinsâ recent performance in the Madrid rookie test, where he secured the fourth-quickest time in the afternoon session, has only bolstered his reputation as a top-tier prospect. His consistent pace in every test session he has participated in has led to widespread belief that he would be an exceptional addition to the Formula E grid.
According to reports, the three-time Formula 2 race winner is currently being considered by Nissan as a potential partner for reigning world champion Oliver Rowland for the upcoming season. As the series prepares for the Gen4 launch, the increased performance and sophisticated design of the new car are expected to draw a higher caliber of talent, including more current and former F2 drivers, into the all-electric fold.
