As Formula 1 enters its April break following the cancellation of the Middle Eastern races, attention has shifted from the track to the rulebook. With drivers voicing concerns over the new-generation cars introduced under fresh technical regulations, the sport is preparing for a structured review process that could shape the immediate and long-term future of the 2026 framework.
The first step comes on Thursday, April 9, when technical directors from the FIA, the teams, and engine manufacturers will convene virtually. Armed with data from the opening three races, the group will evaluate the early performance of the new regulations and begin discussions on potential refinements.
This initial session is expected to focus on short-term adjustments, with particular attention on measures that could be implemented as soon as the next round in Miami. Changes related to energy deployment are understood to be within reach.
However, sources indicate that more substantial regulatory revisions will require additional time. Importantly, this meeting is designed as preparatory groundwork rather than a final decision-making forum.
The more decisive moment is set for April 20, when team principals will join FIA and Formula 1 officials for a higher-level discussion. At this gathering, proposed modifications will be formally addressed, and the conversation is expected to expand to more significant adjustments aimed at fine-tuning the regulations for the future.
Any agreed changes will still need to pass through the sport’s governance structure. Final implementation remains subject to approval by the FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC).
With driver feedback mounting and real-world data now available, the coming weeks could prove pivotal in shaping how Formula 1’s latest technical era evolves.
