The 2026 Formula 1 season has been defined by the relentless pace of the Silver Arrows, but the narrative could be about to shift. Inside the walls of Maranello, there is a growing belief that Ferrari’s highly anticipated upgrade package for the Miami Grand Prix will fundamentally rewrite the script of the current campaign.
While the Scuderia has enjoyed a promising start to the year—with both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton securing at least one podium finish—they remain a step behind the dominant Mercedes pairing of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell. The Brackley-based squad currently holds a commanding 45-point advantage at the summit of the constructors’ standings. However, the April break has provided the perfect window for teams to work around the clock, and Ferrari is poised to unleash what has been described as "at least half" of a new car in Florida.

According to reports from Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ferrari staff are confident that the upcoming developments will be a game-changer. The team has reportedly been working tirelessly to address the SF-26’s vulnerabilities, specifically targeting single-lap pace in qualifying and performance during the latter stages of races when the car is operating on a near-empty fuel tank.

The planned aerodynamic evolution is extensive, aimed at improving practically every area of the challenger. Expected modifications include a revised front wing with a new flap, updated wing profiles, and altered bulkheads to extract crucial extra performance. Furthermore, the SF-26 is set to feature changes to the halo, side edges, rear wheels, and the underframe.
Perhaps most intriguingly, the Miami package could see the introduction of the famous Macarena wing, a radical design concept that has been the subject of intense speculation in the paddock.

Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur has been pragmatic about the team's position but remains optimistic about the development race. Speaking previously in Japan, the Frenchman hinted that the aggressive upgrade push from teams like Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull could rapidly close the deficit to Mercedes.
"Am I satisfied with this start to the season? Yes and no," Vasseur admitted. "No, because our goal is to finish on the podium, but also to win races. This means we have a performance deficit compared to Mercedes, and that’s clear."
Despite the gap, Vasseur emphasized that the Scuderia is within striking distance. "This means we need to do a better job, but, overall, we’re not far off, and we know that Miami could be a different championship. We need to continue to score a lot of points, finish on the podium, and not be far behind Mercedes. We’ll need to be close in the championship."
With the development war set to define the 2026 season, Vasseur is acutely aware of the stakes. "The rate of development in the world championship will be very high, which is why we’ll need to keep pushing so hard in the coming months to accumulate points and results."
If the Miami upgrades deliver the anticipated performance leap, Ferrari has the ultimate driver pairing in Leclerc and Hamilton ready to capitalize. For the Scuderia, the objective is clear: transform consistent podium finishes into race victories and take the fight directly to Mercedes.
