FIA launches comprehensive Global Training Programme for motorsport officials

The FIA has unveiled what it describes as a "comprehensive" training and development package aimed at strengthening the foundation of motorsport governance worldwide. Over the next year, three dedicated programmes will be rolled out to support officials operating at national, regional and international level across FIA-sanctioned series.

Building a clear pathway to international competition

The new framework is designed to create a defined development pathway for officials, beginning at their national FIA member clubs — such as Motorsport UK in Great Britain — and extending to the international stage.

Developed in collaboration with the FIA’s recently established Officials Department, the programmes aim to "refresh their knowledge, promote best practice and ensure alignment with current regulatory standards." Beyond technical alignment, the broader ambition is to "elevate officiating quality, strengthen consistency across competitions and embed a culture of continuous professional development and high performance across the FIA officiating network."

The emphasis is not merely on education, but on long-term performance standards and decision-making consistency — areas that are central to the credibility and integrity of competitive motorsport.

Leadership backing and long-term vision

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem framed the initiative as a continuation of reforms introduced last year.

"Last year, we took an important step forward with the launch of the FIA Officials Department," he said. "It strengthened how we support and empower officials and recognise their significant contribution."

He added: "These training programmes reflect our ongoing commitment to supporting officials, because when we grow our officials, we grow our sport."

Matteo Perini, FIA Sport Officials Manager, underlined the intent behind the programme’s structure.

"These programmes have been carefully crafted to provide motor sport officials across the world with the tools and resources they need to fulfil their roles and continue officiating at the highest level," he explained. "By strengthening their knowledge, confidence and decision‑making capabilities, we are investing in the long‑term excellence and consistency of our global officiating community."

Raising standards across the FIA Network

At its core, the initiative represents an organised push toward greater consistency, clarity and professional development across the FIA’s officiating ranks. By formalising education pathways and reinforcing regulatory alignment, the governing body is seeking to strengthen the standards underpinning competition at every level.

With hundreds of officials enrolled and a global footprint spanning more than 100 countries, the programme marks a significant step in shaping the future of motorsport governance.
