Van Amersfoort Racing has confirmed Ricco Shlaimoun as its Reserve Driver for the 2026 season, adding further depth to its Formula 2 programme ahead of the new campaign.
The American will be embedded within the team across race weekends and preparation phases, contributing to simulator work and debrief sessions alongside the main driver line-up of Nico Varrone and Rafael VillagĂłmez.
Shlaimounâs responsibilities will see him fully integrated into VARâs competitive structure throughout the year. His work in the simulator and participation in technical debriefs underline the teamâs intent to maximise preparation and performance across its Formula 2 operation.
Team Principal Brad Joyce emphasised the strategic value of the appointment, drawing parallels with established structures at the pinnacle of the sport.
âWeâre pleased to welcome Ricco to the team in this role. Having a reserve driver is something well established in Formula 1, and we see real value in bringing that approach into our Formula 2 programme. Ricco will be fully immersed in our environment throughout the season while continuing his own development, and at the same time adds depth to our driver line-up. Weâre looking forward to working with him and supporting his progression.â
The move signals VARâs commitment to reinforcing its internal development pipeline while strengthening operational resilience across a demanding season.
Shlaimoun arrives at VAR following a season in GT America, where he secured two podium finishes. Prior to that, he competed in the Formula Regional Americas Championship in 2024, adding to earlier experience in Formula 4 and Regional categories.
The step into a structured reserve role within a Formula 2 environment represents a continuation of that trajectory, offering exposure to high-level race preparation and team integration.
Reflecting on the opportunity, Shlaimoun highlighted both the learning potential and the competitive setting awaiting him.
âIâm really excited to be joining Van Amersfoort Racing as reserve driver for the 2026 season. Being part of the team across race weekends and preparation sessions is a great opportunity to keep learning and developing in such a competitive environment. Iâm looking forward to working closely with everyone and making the most of the experience throughout the year.â
For Shlaimoun, 2026 will be defined by immersion and progression. For Van Amersfoort Racing, the appointment strengthens its driver structure with an eye on both performance and long-term development.
