Formula E has confirmed that pre-season testing for its radical new Gen4 machine will take place at the iconic Circuito de Madrid Jarama, with track action scheduled between November 16th and November 20th. The test will serve as the championship's official launch pad for the 2026/27 season — the 13th in Formula E's history.
The Gen4 is the most technically ambitious car the championship has produced. Capable of delivering 600kw of power in attack mode, the all-wheel-drive machine can exceed 335kph (208mph) and accelerates from 0 to 200kph in just 4.4 seconds — figures that place it firmly in the conversation as the most powerful electric racing car ever built for competition.

The car was recently given a high-profile public debut at the Monaco E-Prix, where it was driven by F1 legend David Coulthard. His reaction was unequivocal — "it's more than night and day", calling for a second run on a venue with proper run-off to fully exploit the car's capabilities.
The choice of Jarama carries both historical weight and recent relevance. Formula E returned to the Madrid venue this season for round six, a race that was claimed by Antonio Felix da Costa. Now the circuit will host what promises to be one of the most significant milestones in the championship's short but rapidly evolving history.

Chief championship officer Alberto Longo was effusive about the venue selection. "We are delighted that the iconic Circuito de Madrid Jarama will play host to such a significant milestone in Formula E history," he said. "Madrid has already proven to be an incredible venue for our championship, and there is no better place to debut the new Gen4 car ahead of the new season than at a venue that blends racing heritage with a forward-thinking vision."
Longo framed the test as far more than a routine shakedown. "This is more than just a test; it is the first time the world will see all our drivers, teams, and manufacturers showcase their new Gen4 machinery — the most powerful and technologically advanced electric race car ever built, ahead of its racing debut."
With the Jarama test set to provide the world's first comprehensive look at the full Gen4 grid, attention will quickly turn to where the car makes its competitive debut. The full 2026/27 season calendar is set to be officially confirmed on June 23rd, when the location of the opening race weekend will also be revealed.
