For Isack Hadjar, the path to the pinnacle of Formula 1 was never a matter of chance; it was a meticulously plotted trajectory. The 21-year-old Frenchman has revealed that his primary objective entering his rookie season was not merely to gain experience, but to secure a promotion from the Racing Bulls outfit to the coveted second seat alongside four-time world champion Max Verstappen at Red Bull.
While the Milton Keynes-based squad currently grapples with the challenges of the RB22, Hadjar has already distinguished himself by proving to be a more formidable match for his teammate than many of his predecessors. His performance has been defined by a blend of raw pace and remarkable consistency, a testament to his preparation for what he described as a "big, big rookie season."

The journey was not without its early hurdles. Hadjarâs introduction to the sport was marked by a difficult start at the Australian Grand Prix, where he crashed out on the formation lap. Yet, it was his response to that setback that signaled his maturity. Rather than letting the disappointment derail his momentum, he immediately regained his pace at Albert Park, refusing to let the early pressure of the sport dictate his trajectory.

"I really enjoyed it," Hadjar reflected in an interview with Formula 1. "I felt very stressed at the start of the year. I knew I didn't have much mileage in F1. I knew it's the biggest championship, it's the last year of these regulations, so everyone is flat out, and I need to have the pace."
He admitted to initial concerns about his competitiveness, fearing he might struggle to bridge the gap to the front of the field. However, those fears proved unfounded. His consistency was such that he did not experience his first Q1 elimination until the 16th round of the season in Monzaâa remarkable feat for a driver in his debut year. This level of performance was punctuated by a standout maiden podium finish at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Reflecting on his mindset, Hadjar conceded that the pressure to perform was always tied to his ultimate goal: the Red Bull promotion. While he publicly spoke of taking things "step by step," his internal focus remained fixed on the top team.
"I was straight in the rhythm, and I must say, I just enjoyed it a lot," Hadjar added. "I knew that if I did the job naturally, I would get the seat, the promotion. And to be honest, that was my target starting the year. I was like, 'I'm going to take it step by step, blah, blah, blah.' That's what I was saying. But in fact, I wanted to have a big, big rookie season, step into the Red Bull, and that was it."
As the grid continues to evolve, with teams like Mercedes and McLaren pushing the boundaries of development, Hadjarâs ability to handle the intense scrutiny of the Red Bull environment will remain a key storyline to watch. His transition from a promising rookie to a driver capable of challenging at the front is a clear indicator of his potential in the sport.
