Rafaela Ferreira has been given a five-place grid penalty following the conclusion of the F1 ACADEMY Feature Race at Silverstone, after the Stewards found the Racing Bulls driver wholly responsible for a collision with Ella Stevens on the main straight.
The incident occurred while Ferreira was defending her position on the main straight. According to the Stewardsâ verdict, Stevens was sufficiently alongside when Ferreira moved towards her, leaving the officials to determine that the Brazilian was entirely at fault for the contact.

The consequences were immediate and decisive. The collision forced both cars out of the race, turning what began as a defensive move into a costly retirement for both drivers. In a category where track position and race execution are critical, the penalty underlines how sharply defensive driving is judged when overlap has already been established.
The decision came after a Silverstone Feature Race that had already produced major talking points, with Alisha Palmowskiâs victory and Chiara BĂ€ttigâs landmark podium covered in our report on the F1 ACADEMY Silverstone Feature Race.

As a result of the Stewardsâ ruling, Ferreira will drop five places on the grid for the next race in which she participates. The wording is significant: the sanction is not tied to a specific event named in the decision, but to her next start.
For Ferreira, the penalty represents a substantial sporting setback. A five-place drop can reshape an entire race weekend, particularly in a competitive field where clean air, early positioning and avoiding midfield traffic can heavily influence the opening laps. The Brazilian will now have to absorb the grid loss and recover on track when she next competes.
The core of the decision rests on one point: Stevens was judged to be sufficiently alongside. Once that threshold is met, a defending driver must leave adequate space. The Stewards concluded Ferreira did not do so, and the fact that both cars retired only increased the severity of the outcome.
There was no ambiguity in the verdict. Ferreira was deemed wholly to blame, and the five-place penalty reflects both the responsibility assigned to her and the race-ending impact of the collision.
For Racing Bulls, it is an unwanted conclusion to the Silverstone Feature Race. For Ferreira, the next challenge will be to respond decisively after a penalty that will immediately compromise her next grid position.
