Bottas completes 419km ride from Malaysia to Singapore

Valtteri Bottas took an unusually long route to the Singapore Grand Prix, cycling from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore rather than taking the short flight after the race in Malaysia. The Cadillac driver completed the multi-day journey ahead of the weekend at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, arriving safely in the city before speaking to media on Thursday.
Bottas said the ride let him see much of the country, including jungles and plantations, and that some of the journey took place at night. The trip became a talking point in the paddock, but he said he had planned the distances to leave room for recovery before racing.

Bottas split the journey into several long rides
The cycling began on the evening the Malaysian race concluded. Bottas rode 56.60km from Kuala Lumpur to Port Dickson, taking just over two hours. The following day brought the longest leg: almost six hours on the bike and 161.91km via Malacca City to Muar.
He continued south on Tuesday, covering another 161km in more than five hours. The route included coastal stretches, natural paths and gravel roads, before taking him inland through Kelapa Sawit. On Wednesday, he completed the final, shorter leg and reached Singapore after covering 419.67km in total.
Bottas said he considered the final day close to a recovery ride, and described the day before the media session as an easy one. He also said he is accustomed to long rides and feels more comfortable in the heat as each day passes.

Cycling remains part of Bottas’ life outside Formula 1
The Finn has previously competed in gravel cycling, earning a place at the Gravel World Championships after finishing fifth in his age group at a qualifying event in the Czech Republic. The championship takes place this weekend, so he will miss it while racing in Singapore.
He has no further major rides planned for the immediate future, though he left open the possibility of taking on another challenge. The journey also brought an unexpected encounter: Bottas said he saw a couple of snakes, despite not being fond of them, and found them calm.
