Dino Beganovic converts pole into dominant F2 Feature Race victory at Madring
Dino Beganovic delivered a composed pole-to-win performance in the 32-lap Formula 2 Feature Race at the Madring, emerging from a contest shaped by yellow flags, two safety-car periods and a late switch to timed racing.
The DAMS driver held position through the opening lap before beginning to build an advantage. Alex Dunne initially responded with strong pace, reducing the gap to less than half a second, but Beganovic steadily re-established control. His victory followed the pole position he secured in a qualifying session disrupted by two red flags, as reported in our earlier qualifying coverage.
The first interruption arrived on Lap 3, when ART’s Kush Maini hit the wall at the exit of Turn 18 following contact with Cian Shields. Maini avoided harm, but the incident added another difficult moment to his weekend. A safety car was then deployed on Lap 4 after Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak returned to the pits for a tyre change.
Racing resumed on Lap 7 after the field completed the restart procedure. Beganovic reacted well and quickly pulled clear again, while Rafael Camara applied pressure to Dunne for second. Further back, Gabriele Mini moved past MP Motorsport teammate Oliver Goethe for ninth on Lap 8, and Mari Boya produced an impressive double move on Camara and Nikola Tsolov six laps later.
Safety cars reshape the midfield fight
The race’s second major interruption came late in Lap 18. Camara’s aggressive move resulted in Goethe making contact with the wall, prompting another yellow flag and a safety car on Lap 19. John Bennett also ended his race after hitting the wall at Turn 11, while Camara received a 10-second penalty for the incident with Goethe.
With 10 laps remaining, Beganovic again made the most of the restart. Emerson Fittipaldi and Joshua Durksen then fought wheel-to-wheel for fourth, with the battle continuing after the race changed to a timed format. Roman Bilinski also closed to within 0.3 seconds of Tsolov before passing him for tenth with less than two minutes remaining.
Beganovic ultimately crossed the line with a commanding seven-second lead to claim his first Feature Race victory in Formula 2. Dunne finished second, while Ritomo Miyata completed the podium, securing his second podium of the weekend.
Championship picture
The season continues in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 24–26 September. Tsolov leads the championship with 177 points, seven ahead of Camara.
