Domenicali promises "more intensity and drama" as 2027 calendar expands Sprints to ten
F1 CEO and president Stefano Domenicali has promised fans "more intensity and drama" after the 2027 calendar expanded the number of Sprint events to ten, up from six in 2026.
Ten Sprints spread across a 24-race season
The revised 2027 schedule, which also welcomes Portugal and Turkey back to the championship, sees a significant expansion of the shorter-format weekends. Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Canada, Monaco, Great Britain, Italy, Brazil, Qatar and Abu Dhabi will all host a Sprint, with the season-opener in Bahrain and the grand finale in Abu Dhabi staging the format for the very first time.
Most eye-catchingly, Monaco will also host a Sprint for the first time. Six of the ten events fall within the opening twelve races, while four feature in the second half â including three of the final four rounds of a 24-grand prix campaign.
A promise of wheel-to-wheel action
Speaking about the new schedule, Domenicali framed the expansion as a direct response to what makes the sport so compelling. "The 2027 calendar brings together some of the most iconic circuits and vibrant cities in the world, creating an incredible stage for another unforgettable season of Formula 1," he said.
"We are thrilled to welcome Portugal and Turkey to the championship and to expand Sprint racing to ten events, giving our fans even more intensity, drama, and the wheel-to-wheel action that make our sport so special."

Domenicali extends his thanks
The F1 chief also took the opportunity to voice his gratitude, both to his FIA counterpart Mohammed Ben Sulayem and to the thousands of individuals who make an F1 season possible.
"I want to thank the President of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, and the FIA, our teams and drivers, promoters, partners, sponsors, and host cities for their continued commitment and support," he said. "And we recognise the extraordinary dedication of the volunteers, marshals, and officials whose hard work makes every grand prix possible."
