Fernando Alonso has offered a clear indication that his racing future could stretch well beyond Formula 1, with Formula E emerging as one of several categories now firmly on his radar.
The two-time world champion is out of contract at the end of 2026 and is expected to decide around the summer break whether he will continue in F1. Staying with Aston Martin for a fifth campaign remains one option, while rumours of a possible return to Alpine to close out his Formula 1 career continue to circulate.

Alonso has made no secret of the fact that Formula 1 will not be his only consideration forever. While he still describes F1 as the pinnacle of motorsport, the Spaniard is already assessing where his competitive instincts could take him next.
A return to the World Endurance Championship is one possibility he continues to monitor closely, particularly given Aston Martin’s hypercar programme. That route has become more tangible after Alonso recently tested Aston Martin’s Valkyrie, with a race version of the car used in WEC competition.

His current Aston Martin situation has also remained a major talking point, with the team publicly expressing confidence over his future beyond 2026, as covered in our report on Aston Martin’s hopes of retaining Fernando Alonso.
Formula E has now entered the conversation because of its incoming Gen4 car. The new machine is set to be capable of 0-100 km/h in 1.8 seconds, reach a top speed of 335 km/h and feature permanent all-wheel drive. Alonso has been watching its private testing performances with interest.
Asked which cars would be fun to drive and race next, Alonso told select media, including RacingNews365: “I don’t know. Difficult to say. All of the cars are fun, you know.”
He was particularly positive about the Valkyrie test at Paul Ricard, describing it as fast, high-downforce and enjoyable to drive. “They have Michelin tyres, which is obviously a plus, and you can drive flat out with no limitations: no overheating, no degradation, no tyre pressures going through the roof,” Alonso said.
Alonso also left the door open to a second Dakar appearance, noting that rally-style machinery offers a very different appeal. “Dakar and rally cars in general are very fun because you’re just dancing with the car,” he said.
Formula E’s next-generation package appears to have made an impression, too. “Even Formula E. I think the new car next year, with four-wheel drive, seems quite fast from the tests they did,” Alonso added.
For now, however, his benchmark remains unchanged: “All cars are fast and fun, but Formula One is very unique and still the pinnacle of motorsport.”
