Formula E co-founder and chief championship officer Alberto Longo has offered Fernando Alonso a direct route into the all-electric championship, insisting the Aston Martin driver only needs to pick up the phone.
The invitation follows Alonso’s first public mention of Formula E as a category that interests him. Speaking to selected media, including RacingNews365, the two-time Formula 1 champion listed the World Endurance Championship, the Dakar Rally and Formula E among the series whose cars he would enjoy driving.

“Dakar and rally cars in general are very fun because you're just dancing with the car,” Alonso said. “Any car, even Formula E. I think the new car next year, with four-wheel drive, seems quite fast from the tests they did.”
The comments are notable because Alonso had not previously mentioned Formula E. They also arrive as he weighs whether to extend his Formula 1 career into 2027, with a decision expected in the coming weeks as the championship approaches its summer break.

A move to Formula E remains highly unlikely. Alonso is 44 and will soon turn 45, while any switch would not happen until 2028 at the earliest. By then, he would be closer to 50 than 40. A significant reduction from his current salary would also be required, before the wider challenges of changing championships are even considered.
Yet the possibility has captured Longo’s imagination. The Formula E chief said Alonso joining the championship would be “a dream come true”, describing the Spaniard as a close personal friend he first met in 2002.
“It would be a very emotional day for me if Fernando ended his career in Formula E,” Longo told RacingNews365. “But just the fact that he's already talking about it is significant. He has never spoken about Formula E in the past.”
Longo believes Alonso’s comments demonstrate the interest generated by Formula E’s Gen4 car, which was recently unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The car’s progress has already become a key talking point, as shown by Formula E Gen4’s Goodwood record attempt.
Formula E’s growing connection with Formula 1 was also visible at the Monaco E-Prix, attended by Lando Norris, Nico Hülkenberg, Carlos Sainz, Gabriel Bortoleto and Oliver Bearman. The reigning F1 world champion was even set to test the Gen4.
For Alonso, the route is equally straightforward. Asked whether he would offer the driver a test, Longo replied: “Fernando just needs to call me. The moment he calls me, I will do whatever is needed to support him with a test or to introduce him to any team.”
