Isack Hadjar will miss this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza as he continues his recovery from a wrist fracture sustained during a boxing session in Formula 1’s summer break.
The injury already forced the Racing Bulls driver to sit out the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. Although Red Bull had hoped the 21-year-old would be fit to return in Italy, the group’s two teams have opted against taking any unnecessary risk during his recovery. The latest update follows the team’s earlier focus on his progress, outlined in Isack Hadjar’s wrist injury improves ahead of Monza return.
Both Red Bull-owned outfits have confirmed unchanged line-ups for Monza. Liam Lawson will again step into Hadjar’s Red Bull seat, while Yuki Tsunoda returns to the Racing Bulls car alongside Arvid Lindblad.
Lawson’s second consecutive weekend with Red Bull comes after a strong stand-in performance in the Netherlands. He qualified eighth and brought the RB22 home in seventh, staying close to his team-mate on one-lap pace. Tsunoda also impressed in unfamiliar circumstances, finishing 11th and narrowly missing out on points.
For Lawson, the continuity is particularly valuable. His Zandvoort appearance provided a first reference in the car, while the completed sprint weekend gave him additional understanding of both the machine and what he needs from it.
“It’s good to hear Isack is recovering well and is back in the car soon, but it’s great to have another weekend with the team,” Lawson said in a statement shared by Red Bull. “Zandvoort gave me a really useful first reference in the car, and having a full sprint weekend behind me means I’m coming into Monza with a much better understanding of the car and what I need from it.”
Tsunoda’s return completes the Racing Bulls line-up after he was recalled to replace Lawson in the Netherlands. The Japanese driver will once again share the car with Lindblad, while Lawson remains alongside Red Bull’s other driver.
Ayumu Iwasa will also take part in the weekend, driving Verstappen’s Red Bull during first free practice. The run fulfils one of the team’s four mandated rookie sessions this season.
Lawson acknowledged that Monza will present a different challenge from Zandvoort, but said he was looking forward to building on the previous weekend with the team.
