Lewis Hamilton has detailed the emotion and execution behind his dramatic Sprint pole position at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix, after edging Kimi Antonelli by just 0.011s in a razor-tight Silverstone shootout.
Ferrari had already looked formidable in the only practice session of the weekend, raising expectations before Sprint Qualifying. Hamiltonâs pace in that session set the tone, as covered in our report on how Hamilton set the British GP Practice pace at Silverstone, but the decisive moment still had to be delivered under maximum pressure.

Silverstone was given a genuine battle across the opening two Sprint Qualifying segments, with Hamilton and Antonelli trading pace as the session built toward SQ3. Antonelli appeared to hold the advantage in the final phase, only for Hamilton to cross the line in the dying seconds and take Sprint pole by the narrowest of margins.
Speaking in Parc Ferme, Hamilton made clear just how much the lap meant, both personally and for Ferrari.

âI love this place,â he said. âI love this crowd. And I canât express to you how big a dream it is. I still, to this day, when youâre building up to this race, think about every corner and the flow that you can get into at this track if you get it set up right and if youâve got the right team behind you.â
Hamilton credited the SF-26âs feel and Ferrariâs continued push for the result, saying the car had been strong throughout the day.
âThe car felt really great today, thanks to everyone back at the factory,â he added. âWeâve got tiny little bits here every single weekend. Everyoneâs pushed to the max, and Iâm really grateful to get that pole.â

Hamilton admitted Ferrari had not arrived at Silverstone expecting to fight for the front row, making the result even more significant. He pointed to the strength of the opposition, including Red Bull and Mercedes, while underlining the satisfaction inside Ferrari.
âTo say weâre ahead of these guys and the Red Bulls, they have so much power, and the boys in blue this weekend have been amazing,â Hamilton said. âBut my team just want to keep pushing, and thatâs what Iâm so proud of.â
Hamilton also sounded encouraged by Ferrariâs longer-run pace after a limited run in practice.
âI think that pace was good,â he said. âThe car felt good there. We should have a good race tomorrow; we start from the front row.â
With Fred Vasseur having downplayed the impact of Ferrariâs power-unit upgrades, converting pole into a Sprint win would give Hamilton and Ferrari a sharp statement at Silverstone â especially against Mercedes.
