Enzo Deligny explains the Iron Man-inspired helmet behind his racing identity
Enzo Delignyâs helmet is built around identity
Enzo Deligny has attracted attention this season not only through his performances for Van Amersfoort Racing, but also through the distinctive helmet he carries into the car. Its design is personal, recognisable and deliberately consistent â a visual signature the driver has retained since childhood.
Deligny recently explained that he first designed the concept himself at the age of five. Rather than reinventing the look every year, he has chosen to preserve it as part of his identity as a driver.
âSo my helmet, I actually designed it myself when I was five. I have basically always kept the same one because itâs important to have your identity as a driver and not change every year.â
The designâs most immediate influence is Iron Man. Deligny said the squares on the helmet were included because, as a child, he believed they made the design resemble the superhero. The reference remains central to the helmetâs character, with the red colour and overall presence reflecting a figure he felt had âa lot of auraâ.
Schumacher influence and Chinese heritage
The helmet also carries two more personal elements: Delignyâs Chinese heritage and the influence of Michael Schumacher. Chinese flowers feature in the design, while his Chinese name is written across the back to represent that side of his background.
The red chrome finish, meanwhile, is connected to Delignyâs childhood memories of Schumacherâs dominance. He said the red helmet was reminiscent of the former championâs design, while the chrome effect helped it stand out strongly on track.
âItâs chrome as well so it really sparks very well, and then in karting, with red and it being bright, you can always see it from afar,â Deligny explained. That visibility also had a practical benefit: it allowed his father to identify him from a distance, even after a spin on the opposite side of the circuit.
The result is a helmet that combines childhood imagination, family connection and driver recognition without becoming overly complex. Deligny has emphasised that simplicity is part of the point â the design has stayed broadly unchanged because it already says what he wants it to say.
Helmet design remains one of the clearest ways young drivers express themselves, as shown by Isack Hadjarâs broken-trophy helmet for the Dutch Grand Prix. For Deligny, that expression is rooted in Iron Man, Schumacher and his Chinese name â three details brought together in a single, instantly visible racing identity.
