Mahindra Retains Mortara and de Vries for Formula E’s GEN4 Era
Mahindra Racing will retain Edoardo Mortara and Nyck de Vries for the 2026/27 FIA Formula E World Championship, keeping together a pairing credited with driving the team’s recent rise ahead of the series’ GEN4 era.
Both drivers joined Mahindra in 2023 and helped the Indian manufacturer finish third in last season’s Teams’ Championship. Across the campaign, they recorded two victories, seven podiums and five pole positions, scoring 252 points to equal the team’s best-ever finish in the standings.
Their continuity gives Mahindra an experienced foundation for the next chapter. De Vries is a former Formula E World Champion, while Mortara’s confirmation takes his career across every generation of the championship. The upcoming season will mark his tenth in the series.
De Vries welcomes a new challenge
De Vries, 31, won in Monaco and Tokyo last season. He also celebrated victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans earlier this year, according to the team announcement.
Reflecting on his first three seasons with Mahindra, the 2020/21 champion said the team had made significant progress and described third place in the Teams’ Championship as a reward for the group’s efforts.
“I’m very happy to continue with Mahindra Racing as we enter the GEN4 era,” de Vries said. “It represents a completely new challenge for everyone in Formula E, with a lot to learn and discover. I’m excited to take that on with the team and see where this next chapter takes us.”
He said he was proud of the direction the team had taken, and credited the work of its members for the results achieved together.
Mortara targets his tenth season
Mortara made his Formula E debut at the 2017 Hong Kong E-Prix and has claimed six E-Prix victories. He said the partnership had delivered steadily improving results over the past three seasons, with performance rising across the team.
“Entering my tenth Formula E season, we know the year ahead will be a real challenge, especially on the technical side, with so much that is new,” Mortara said. “I’m curious and excited to take on that challenge with the team as we move to the new GEN4 cars.”
