Oscar Piastri drops to 15th after Mexico City time penalty
Oscar Piastri was handed a 10-second penalty for a late collision with Arvid Lindblad, reshaping the Mexico City Grand Prix classification.

Oscar Piastri has fallen from seventh to 15th in the adjusted Mexico City Grand Prix results after receiving a 10-second post-race penalty for contact with Arvid Lindblad.
The incident came late in the race, when Piastri tried to pass around the outside at Turn 1. The move sent Lindblad’s Racing Bulls into the wall and brought the McLaren driver before the stewards. The penalty cost Piastri eight places in the final classification.
The penalty reshapes the points positions
The field was tightly grouped after a Safety Car period, so the time penalty had a significant effect on Piastri’s finishing position. His demotion also promoted several drivers in the revised order.
Franco Colapinto, Liam Lawson and Pierre Gasly each moved up, while Gabriel Bortoleto was promoted into the points. Isack Hadjar, Ryo Hirakawa, Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz also gained one position.
The revised result changes the outcome for drivers around Piastri in the lower half of the order. Bortoleto’s move into the points is the clearest direct gain, while Piastri’s fall from P7 to P15 marks the steepest change identified in the post-race adjustments.
Contact at Turn 1 triggered the stewards’ review
Piastri’s attempt to go around the outside of Lindblad ended with the Racing Bulls car hitting the wall. The stewards’ decision followed that collision, with the 10-second addition applied after the chequered flag rather than served during the race.
That post-race ruling has therefore changed the classification without altering what happened on track: Piastri crossed the finish in a points position, but the penalty moved him to 15th in the adjusted results. The consequence extended beyond the McLaren driver, with the reshuffle lifting Bortoleto into the points and advancing four other drivers by a place.
