OFFICIAL: Rafael Camara set for Haas F1 debut in 2027

Rafael Camara will make his Formula 1 debut with Haas in 2027, replacing Esteban Ocon after the Frenchman’s departure at the end of this season. The Brazilian has signed a multi-year deal and is expected to partner Oliver Bearman, although Haas has not confirmed the second driver for next year in the source announcement. The 21-year-old arrives as the current Formula 2 championship leader with Invicta. He holds a seven-point advantage over Nikola Tsolov as he targets a third consecutive title in the junior categories.

Camara’s junior record earned him the Haas seat
Camara won the 2024 Formula Regional European Championship before taking the 2025 Formula 3 crown. If he also secures the F2 title, he will become the only driver to have won FRECA, F3 and F2 in consecutive seasons.

Haas evaluated Camara alongside reigning F2 champion Leonardo Fornaroli and reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa. All three took part in the team’s Testing of Previous Cars programme, including a three-day session at Portimão in August. Camara’s connection to the Ferrari Driver Academy, which also supported Bearman, was another point in his favour, given Ferrari’s close relationship with Haas.

Team principal Ayao Komatsu praised Camara’s pace in difficult circumstances, citing qualifying performances in Monaco and Montreal. He also said the Brazilian had handled the Portimão test well despite limited time to learn the car, and highlighted his ability to create the conditions to perform at his best.
Haas expects Bearman to join Camara for 2027
Haas said it intends to support Camara’s development and provide an environment in which he can grow into the role. The driver said his immediate priority is preparing for the step up and learning the car and team.
Bearman is widely expected to retain the other Haas seat after impressing since joining the team as a rookie last year. The announcement leaves three theoretical seats still available for 2027 across the grid, including two at Racing Bulls; the source says the team is expected to keep Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad. Camara’s promotion marks the next step in a rapid rise through the junior ranks, including a strong Formula 2 campaign.
