Red Bull has confirmed the signing of Robin Räikkönen, the son of Formula 1 champion Kimi Räikkönen, to its junior programme.
RacingNews365 first revealed the move last weekend during the Italian Grand Prix. Red Bull’s confirmation now formalises the next stage of a partnership that will support the young Finn as he progresses through the early phases of his motorsport career.
Räikkönen is currently competing in karting championships. He is expected to step up to single-seater competition in the coming years, with that progression now set to take place within Red Bull’s highly established junior structure.
Red Bull team boss Laurent Mekies praised Räikkönen’s performances in karting, while stressing that the organisation intends to develop him gradually rather than accelerate his progress under unnecessary scrutiny.
“Robin has already demonstrated exceptional ability in karting,” Mekies said. “His speed, racecraft and natural talent have established him as one of the most promising young drivers in his age group.”
Mekies also pointed to qualities beyond outright pace, highlighting Räikkönen’s maturity, calm approach and clear focus on driving. Those attributes, Red Bull believes, will be important as he moves towards the more demanding stages of the junior ladder.
“Our goal is to develop him step by step, without placing any unnecessary pressure on his shoulders,” Mekies added. “The path through motorsport is a long one, and we will give him the time, support and resources he needs to maximise his potential.”
The team boss said Red Bull believes talent can thrive when it is supported by the right people, culture and environment. He also confirmed that the team is looking forward to taking the next steps in Räikkönen’s journey alongside him and his family.
