Van Hoepen joins MP Motorsport for 2027 F2 season

Laurens van Hoepen will join MP Motorsport for the 2027 FIA Formula 2 season, linking up with the Dutch outfit after his rookie campaign in the championship. The announcement gives the 21-year-old a place with his home team for next year as he continues to build his experience in F2.
Van Hoepen is currently 10th in the standings, with two rounds left in his first season. He has recorded one pole position and five podium finishes so far. His qualifying achievement has featured in our coverage of Van Hoepen’s F2 pole, while his earlier track appearances have also been followed by F1LivePulse.

A home-team move after his rookie campaign
The Dutch driver said joining MP was a natural step, given the team’s longstanding presence close to home and his familiarity with its success during his recent seasons in FRECA and FIA Formula 3. He believes the experience gained in his first F2 season can help him contribute to the team’s ambitions.
Van Hoepen also welcomed the chance to race in MP’s orange colours. While the team now includes people of many nationalities, he described the move to a Dutch team as a particularly fitting one.

Before stepping up to F2 this year, Van Hoepen spent two seasons in Formula 3, where he collected five podiums. His current campaign has added another five podium finishes, alongside his pole position, and will conclude with two rounds still to run.
MP expects Van Hoepen to strengthen its F2 effort
Sander Dorsman, MP Motorsport’s team principal, said bringing a Dutch driver into the Dutch team was a special prospect. He pointed to Van Hoepen’s talent and debut-season performances as reasons the agreement had come together.
Dorsman said Van Hoepen is the first of the team’s F2 drivers confirmed for 2027. MP intends to maintain its front-running form in the championship, with the signing forming the opening piece of its next-season driver plans.
The move puts Van Hoepen in familiar national colours for his second F2 campaign. Before that begins, he has two remaining rounds in his rookie season to complete, currently sitting 10th in the standings after a campaign that has already delivered five podiums and a pole.
