Max Verstappen has unveiled a special helmet for what will be the final Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort for the time being, adding a personal touch to a weekend that already carries clear significance for Formula 1’s Dutch audience.

The helmet will be used during the final running of the event before Zandvoort drops from the Formula 1 calendar at the end of the year. The race’s conclusion in its current place on the schedule gives Verstappen a defined farewell moment at a venue where his connection with the crowd has been central to the event’s identity.

A short modern chapter at Zandvoort

Zandvoort’s relationship with Formula 1 stretches back much further than its recent return. The circuit was originally used intermittently by the championship from the 1950s through to the mid-1980s, when it featured in its old configuration.

Its return to the schedule in 2021 began a new chapter. Verstappen won the first three editions after the event came back, underlining his early dominance at his home race. The two most recent victories, however, went to McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

That sequence gives the final weekend an added competitive edge. Verstappen enters his last scheduled home race at a circuit where he set the early standard, but where the latest two winners have come from elsewhere. The helmet’s design therefore marks both the occasion and the end of a particularly distinctive run of Dutch Grands Prix.

A sprint-weekend farewell

The final edition will also be staged as a sprint weekend, giving the event a different competitive format for its closing appearance on the calendar. With the venue’s immediate Formula 1 future settled, Verstappen’s helmet provides a visible focal point for the farewell.
