Zandvoort weather forecast: rain threat builds before a brighter Dutch Grand Prix

Zandvoort faces a changing weather picture

Formula 1 returns to Zandvoort this weekend for the Dutch Grand Prix, which, for the time being, will be the final visit to the circuit. The event already carries added significance, but the weather could provide an additional variable across the three days of action.

Friday’s first running is not entirely clear of risk. Showers moving in from the sea could pass over the circuit during the afternoon, with some potentially accompanied by local thunderstorms. That makes the conditions worth monitoring for spectators travelling to the venue as well as for the teams preparing for the opening sessions.

Saturday presents the biggest challenge

The forecast becomes considerably more unsettled on Saturday, when a greater number of showers is expected to develop across the west of the Netherlands. Zandvoort is therefore firmly in the firing line.

The Sprint race could be particularly vulnerable to heavy rainfall. In the most difficult scenario, that would have meaningful consequences for the drivers on track, with the weather potentially becoming a central factor in how the session unfolds.

Temperatures are expected to remain around 19°C. The wind should shift to a northerly direction and stay mostly moderate, although gusts are possible when the heavier showers arrive.

Sunday offers a more settled finale

Sunday looks set to be the most favourable of the three days by some distance. A final shower may linger during the morning, but drier conditions are expected to establish themselves before the grand prix, with regular spells of sunshine developing throughout the afternoon.

Temperatures should rise to approximately 22°C, while light winds from the northwest to north are expected to complete a much calmer picture for the race itself. After a potentially disruptive Saturday, the Dutch Grand Prix could therefore conclude in significantly more stable conditions for both drivers and fans.
