FIA partners with AWS for future F1 rules and digital services
The FIA will use AWS cloud and AI tools to support technical rule-making, aerodynamic simulations and a wider digital licensing rollout.

The FIA has named Amazon Web Services (AWS) its Official AI and Cloud Computing Partner, adding cloud and artificial-intelligence tools to its efforts to shape future technical regulations and modernise its operations.
The partnership builds on the governing body’s existing use of AWS high-performance computing for aerodynamic simulations. The FIA can run virtual airflow tests without constructing physical parts, a process that reduces both the time and cost involved in that work.
AI and computing will support future rule-making
AWS’s AI tools are intended to strengthen the FIA’s ability to develop technical regulations. The announcement did not set out a timetable or specify which future rules will be assessed using the technology.
The move places more digital capability behind the FIA’s regulatory work, while simulation technology already gives it a way to test aerodynamic concepts virtually. It sits alongside other regulatory developments, including the FIA’s work on fine-tuning the 2026 Overtake Mode rules.
The FIA also plans to extend its digital licensing platform. First trialled in Canada and Sri Lanka, the system is set to reach more countries. It is designed to simplify licence administration, help national sporting authorities run events and make it easier for officials to register.
FIA links the technology deal to wider participation
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the partnership would support work ranging from future cars to grassroots motor sport. He also pointed to improving efficiency for member clubs and making participation simpler for drivers, officials and volunteers, as part of the FIA’s ambition to double global motor sport participation.
AWS is already a partner of Formula 1 management, having joined in 2018 as its innovation technology partner. Its services include processing telemetry data for broadcast use, including live strategy predictions.
The new agreement therefore broadens AWS’s role across motor sport: the FIA is applying its tools to regulation, simulation and administration, while F1 management already uses AWS services for broadcast-related data. The announcement comes as the governing body continues to address a range of oversight responsibilities, including its tighter cost-cap controls.
