Formula E has announced a landmark multi-year agreement with Disney+ and ESPN that will make Disney+ the global streaming home of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship across 144 territories from the 2026/27 season. In the United States, coverage will be available on Disney+ alongside ESPN+.
The deal arrives as Formula E prepares to enter its GEN4 era, giving the all-electric championship a major digital platform at a significant point in its development. The series, majority-owned by Liberty Global, says Disney’s global streaming ecosystem will help introduce Formula E to millions of new households while complementing its existing free-to-air and linear broadcast partnerships.
The intention is not to replace traditional coverage, but to widen the ways fans can follow the championship. Formula E says the agreement will preserve the broad accessibility that has supported the series while strengthening its global digital reach.
Subscribers will receive live coverage of every session across each race weekend: practice, qualifying and the race itself. The streaming package will also include preview and review programmes, highlights, analysis, exclusive behind-the-scenes content and full race replays available on demand immediately after each event.
Jeff Dodds, Formula E’s chief executive officer, described the agreement as “a landmark moment for Formula E”, pointing to Disney’s reach and the opportunity to bring new audiences closer to the championship’s drama, innovation and electric racing. Chief Media Officer Michaella Snoeck said the partnership reflected global demand for Formula E and would accelerate its digital footprint while maintaining its linear television network.
Joe Earley, Disney Entertainment’s co-president for direct-to-consumer, said Formula E offered a combination of world-class competition, technology and sustainability that was unlike any other sport.
The 2026/27 campaign will also mark the debut of GEN4, described by Formula E as its fastest and most technologically advanced electric racing car. The package is set to deliver 600kW of power, equivalent to more than 815 horsepower, and a claimed 0–60 mph time of approximately 1.8 seconds.
The season will feature an enhanced race-weekend format and an expanded calendar of 21 races across 13 cities. It begins in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on 18 December and concludes under the lights in Tokyo on 25 July 2027.
The announcement comes shortly before the current GEN3 era reaches its climax. Formula E’s London E-Prix timetable details the season-ending double-header, where nine drivers remain in mathematical contention for the championship.
