George Russell announces engagement to Carmen Montero Mundt

George Russell has announced his engagement to long-term partner Carmen Montero Mundt, sharing the news in a social media post featuring a ring and a white heart.

A relationship shaped away from the paddock

Russell and Montero Mundt began dating in early 2020 after being introduced by a mutual friend. Since then, she has become a familiar presence at Formula 1 race weekends, regularly attending events alongside the Mercedes driver.

Russell has previously described the role she plays in helping him manage the demands of his racing career. Speaking to The Times in June 2026, he said: “Carmen brings me stability when it comes to racing and also a way to disconnect.”

He also indicated that marriage was part of his long-term plans, adding: “Without doubt she’s my future. So [I hope we’ll be married] in due course. It won’t be next week, but it won’t be longer than five years. So somewhere in that timeframe.”

Messages of support quickly followed Russell’s announcement. His Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli wrote: “Congratulations to you both, mate.”

Pierre Gasly, Mercedes, Williams, Formula 1 and Alex Albon’s fiancée Lily Muni He were among those who also congratulated the couple. The response underlined how closely Montero Mundt is connected to the wider paddock after years of attending race weekends with Russell.

The announcement attracted significant attention online. At the time of writing, it had received 645,000 likes, 20,000 comments and more than 37,000 reposts.
