Lewis Hamilton has welcomed a new member to his family, introducing a golden retriever puppy named Halo as Formula 1 heads into its summer break.
The seven-time champion acquired Halo from US-based breeder Goldiva Goldens. The puppy is Hamilton’s first dog since the death of his English bulldog Roscoe, who passed away from pneumonia at the age of 13 in September last year.
Hamilton has retained Los Angeles-based animal trainer Kirstin McMillian to help with the new arrival. McMillian previously worked with Roscoe and Coco, giving her an established connection with Hamilton’s dogs.
Goldiva Goldens announced the move on Instagram alongside a photograph of Halo wearing a racing helmet. “We’re excited to fly Ms Halo to Los Angeles to Formula 1 Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton,” the breeder wrote, adding that McMillian had travelled to Maine ahead of the puppy’s journey.
Halo’s arrival quickly attracted attention across social media, particularly after Hamilton’s partner and media personality Kim Kardashian posted a photograph with the puppy. Fans responded with enthusiasm, with several predicting that Halo would be “spoiled rotten” and enjoy an exceptionally happy life with Hamilton.
The choice of breed also prompted discussion. One fan noted that Hamilton had selected a different breed for his third dog despite appearing to be a long-time bulldog fan. Others focused on the possibility of Halo meeting Leo, the dog belonging to Hamilton’s Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc.
“Would be nice to see Halo and Leo meet each other,” one fan posted, while another suggested that the pair should receive matching Ferrari jackets. There was also speculation over whether Halo might eventually be seen in the paddock, given the size golden retrievers can reach.
Halo’s arrival comes at a significant point in Hamilton’s first season with Ferrari. After finishing fifth at the Hungarian Grand Prix, he sits second in the drivers’ standings with 169 points, 50 behind championship leader Kimi Antonelli.
The result followed a period in which Hamilton has remained firmly in the title picture.
