New Madring images reveal Madrid’s preparations for its Formula 1 debut

Madring takes shape ahead of Madrid’s first Grand Prix

New images released by the Madring have offered the clearest look yet at preparations for Madrid’s first Formula 1 Grand Prix, with the Spanish capital’s new circuit continuing to take shape ahead of its debut next month.

Madrid’s arrival on the calendar marks a significant change in the Spanish Grand Prix landscape. The city previously hosted Formula 1 at Jarama, but the Madring is positioned far more centrally, bringing the sport closer to the heart of the capital and creating a new setting for Spanish motorsport fans.

A circuit built around contrast

The Madring is designed to combine the atmosphere of a street circuit with the feel of a permanent racing venue. That blend should give the track a distinct identity from the opening lap, while also presenting the drivers with an unfamiliar challenge.

The layout features 22 corners, with the banked La Monumental corner standing out as its most visually striking section. The circuit will also feature long straights where spectators can see the cars reach speeds of up to 340 kph, adding a high-speed element to a venue otherwise defined by its urban setting and varied configuration.

That combination of fast sections, a heavily banked corner and a substantial number of turns will make the Madring one of the most closely watched new additions to the Formula 1 calendar. For the teams, the first weekend will provide an immediate test of how quickly they can understand a circuit with no established race history.

Early running offers first clues

A small group has already received an early preview of the track. Carlos Sainz completed the debut laps earlier this year, while Ferrari became the first team to experience the circuit in an F1 car in July. Sainz’s connection with the event also adds an obvious local focus; more on his current F1 trajectory can be found in this latest Carlos Sainz report.

With construction and event preparations continuing, attention will now turn to the first official running. The latest photographs underline that the Madring is moving rapidly from concept to reality, ahead of a debut that promises a new challenge for the drivers and a major occasion for Madrid.
