Pepe Martí will remain with Cupra Kiro for the 2026/27 Formula E season after agreeing a contract extension with the team. The announcement confirms a continuation that had been widely expected following an impressive first campaign in the all-electric championship.
Martí arrived in Formula E from Formula 2 at the end of 2025, having previously been part of the Red Bull junior programme. His first season combined a difficult introduction with a rapid competitive recovery, ultimately leaving him 13th in the drivers’ standings.
The Spanish driver’s debut race in São Paulo last December ended in one of the biggest crashes in Formula E history, with Martí’s car finishing upside down. Yet the incident did not define his rookie year. He responded by learning quickly from the experience and developed into a regular points contender.
That progress was underlined by two standout podium finishes, in Monaco and Sanya. Martí also led races during the season and became the first Spanish driver to stand on a Formula E podium, giving added significance to a campaign that began in such dramatic fashion.
The team’s second-year decision also places Martí at the start of the Gen4 era. For Martí, the new cycle offers an opportunity to build on the pace and composure he demonstrated once the early setbacks were behind him.
Martí said the support and trust he received from Cupra Kiro were central to his first season and that he had grown considerably as a driver through the experience.
“I’m very excited to continue with Cupra Kiro for the 2026/27 Formula E season. I’ve felt a huge amount of support and trust since joining the team, and together, I think we’ve built something really positive during my rookie year.”
He added that his podiums, race leads and historic Spanish milestone represented achievements of which he was proud, but insisted the partnership was only beginning.
“CUPRA KIRO has big ambitions for the future, and I’m excited to be part of the journey for Gen4. I can’t wait to see what we can achieve next season.”
Cupra Kiro did not announce Martí’s team-mate for next season. The driver line-up therefore remains incomplete, but Martí’s place is now secure as the team prepares for its second year with the Spaniard and the beginning of Gen4.
