Sebastian Vettel discusses potential future role in F1 focusing on sustainability
Four-time Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel has opened up about his life away from the cockpit, revealing that while he is not actively hunting for a new role, he remains deeply invested in the future direction of the championship.
Speaking on the BBC's Chequered Flag Podcast following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the German driver discussed his transition to life post-retirement. While Vettel is currently enjoying a more tranquil existenceâmanaging a family farm and focusing on his personal lifeâhis mind is clearly still tuned to the high-stakes world of elite motorsport.
A Focus on Sustainability and 2026 Regulations
Vettel's interest in the sport appears to be shifting from immediate competitive results to long-term structural and environmental evolution. He noted that he is keeping a close watch on the upcoming 2026 F1 regulations and the sport's commitment to achieving net-zero goals by 2030.
âI'm still very much involved in the sport. Obviously, I don't have an active role at the moment, but very much following what's going on and caring about the sport's future,â Vettel explained. He added that his interests are specifically focused on sustainability and the technical changes that will define the next era of racing.
The former champion has already expressed views on how regulation changes affect the grid, and it seems these themes of future-proofing the sport remain central to his thinking.
Open to Opportunities, Not Pursuing Them
Despite his continued engagement with F1 topics, Vettel was quick to clarify that he is not currently in negotiations with any teams. He emphasized that he is not "dropping his CV" or actively seeking employment, but rather waiting to see what the future holds.
âI'm always open for what comes around the corner in terms of maybe a role in the future, but I'm not actively pursuing it. I'm not speaking to teams or individuals... but following from the outside with great joy and pleasure,â he stated.
Vettel suggested that his past projectsâsome visible at the track and others more behind the scenesâare all part of a larger vision for the sport's future. For Vettel, the goal is to ensure that the legacy of Formula 1 is sustainable, not just for the fans, but for future generations.
