Dan Ticktum has secured his next Formula E seat, joining Fortescue Zero Racing for the team’s debut season in the 2026/27 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. He will partner Taylor Barnard at the new outfit, which will be the series’ first Australian-owned team.

Ticktum arrives after leaving Cupra Kiro, bringing Formula E experience to a team preparing to enter the championship. The announcement also completes a key part of the new squad’s driver line-up, after Barnard was confirmed for Fortescue Zero’s GEN4 debut.

Ticktum drawn to the team’s different approach

Ticktum said the prospect of racing for a new organisation and helping establish it appealed to him. He described the opportunity to represent Fortescue Zero in its first season as an honour, and said he was eager to contribute to building the team.

The Briton also expressed gratitude for the support and confidence that had brought him to the drive. He said he looked forward to working with team principal Jim Wright and the wider group, with the aim of making the campaign a success.

Fortescue Zero’s motorsport background includes links with Williams Racing. The organisation has since moved into developing high-performance electrification technology for racing, commercial vehicles and heavy industry.

Wright expects Ticktum’s pace to strengthen the squad

Wright welcomed the signing, pointing to Ticktum’s speed, competitive nature and record as a Formula E race winner. He said the driver’s willingness to challenge established approaches fitted the organisation’s outlook, while underlining that results would also require discipline and teamwork.

The team principal said Ticktum would bring experience and strength to the garage, and described the partnership as an opportunity for the new squad to demonstrate what it can achieve. Wright’s appointment to lead the team was confirmed previously.

For Ticktum, the move offers a fresh start with a team entering the championship from scratch. Fortescue Zero, meanwhile, gains an established Formula E competitor as it prepares for its first campaign, with Barnard alongside him in the line-up.
