Freddie Slater to step up to Formula 2 with Invicta Racing in 2027
Freddie Slater will graduate to the FIA Formula 2 Championship next season after agreeing to join Invicta Racing for its 2027 campaign. The announcement makes Invicta the first team to confirm a driver for the new season and gives the 2026 FIA Formula 3 runner-up a clear next step in his development.
Slater finished second in the F3 Driversâ Standings after a season that included one race victory, seven further podium finishes and three pole positions. Invicta enters the partnership as the current F2 Teamsâ Champions, adding a strong competitive platform to Slaterâs move up the single-seater ladder. The deal also continues the pathway of an Audi Driver Development Programme talent who has collected titles at every previous stage of his career.
A rapid rise through the junior categories
Before reaching F3, Slater won the Formula Regional European Championship in 2025, following Italian and UAE F4 titles in 2024. His junior record began with the Ginetta Junior Championship title in 2023.
That progression has now taken him to Formula 2, where the demands of a higher category will provide a new measure of his pace, racecraft and consistency. Slater said his first F3 season had helped him develop both on and off the track and that he was eager to begin preparing with Invicta.
âIâm really excited to be stepping up to Formula 2 with Invicta Racing next year. I learned a lot in Formula 3 this season, and I feel I have developed as a driver and as a person over the course of the year,â Slater said.
He also thanked the Audi Driver Development Programme for its continued support, while acknowledging that there was still more to learn before the 2027 campaign begins.
Invicta and Audi back the next step
Invicta CEO and Team Principal James Robinson described Slaterâs second-place finish in his first F3 season as an outstanding achievement. He pointed to the driverâs victory, three poles and eight podiums as evidence of the pace and consistency that convinced the team he was ready for Formula 2.
Audi Driver Development Programme Director Allan McNish called the move a natural next phase, highlighting Slaterâs speed, racecraft and progress during his title fight. Both Invicta and Audi believe the partnership provides the right environment for his continued development as he takes on the challenge of Formula 2 in 2027.
