Nissan will supply Andretti Formula E with powertrains from next season after the two teams confirmed a multi-year agreement covering the GEN4 era of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
The announcement, made ahead of Formula E’s home race in Tokyo, brings together two of the championship’s established names at a pivotal point for the series. For Andretti, it confirms the identity of its new technical partner after the team announced in May that its relationship with Porsche would end when GEN4 begins.
The Nissan deal gives Andretti a clear direction for the next generation, while creating a customer-team relationship that both organisations believe can support performance and technical development. Nissan Team Principal and Managing Director Tommaso Volpe said the partnership would help the manufacturer maximise those objectives in an increasingly competitive championship.
“We’re delighted to welcome Andretti Formula E as our customer team for the GEN4 era,” Volpe said. “Andretti is one of the most successful names in motorsport, including Formula E, where it has established itself as one of the leading teams in the sport, consistently competing at the front and securing a Drivers’ World Championship.”
Andretti’s Porsche alliance began at the start of the 2022/23 season and quickly developed into one of Formula E’s most successful partnerships. Together, the organisations helped Jake Dennis secure his first Drivers’ title, while Porsche currently leads the Manufacturers’ World Championship with four rounds remaining.
That competitive record sets a high benchmark for the Nissan relationship. Andretti Team Principal Roger Griffiths pointed to Nissan’s motorsport history and experience in electric vehicles as key reasons for the new alliance, describing the manufacturer as highly competitive during its time in Formula E.
“It’s these characteristics that align so well with the approach of Andretti Formula E and why we are extremely proud to be aligned with the Japanese manufacturer entering the highly anticipated GEN4 era,” Griffiths said.
The announcement adds another layer to an already significant Tokyo weekend. For now, the immediate focus remains on the championship battle. Beyond Tokyo, however, Nissan and Andretti have established one of GEN4’s most closely watched technical partnerships before the new era has even begun.
