Nyck de Vries delivered the fastest lap in Free Practice 3 at the London E-Prix, putting Mahindra Racing at the top of the order with a 1m07.118s effort. Dan Ticktum followed for CUPRA KIRO, with Sebastien Buemi third for Envision Racing.
The session was interrupted by a red flag after Lucas di Grassi was forced to stop his Lola Yamaha ABT at Turn 6 with a mechanical issue. The car went into red mode and required recovery, bringing the 40-minute session to a halt around its halfway point.
For di Grassi, the stoppage added another setback to his final Formula E weekend as a driver. The Brazilian, who is retiring from motorsport this weekend, had also been unable to finish Saturday’s race after an issue with the car.
The result continued Mahindra’s strong start to the morning, after Edoardo Mortara topped FP2 for the team. De Vries remained quickest once running resumed, while Ticktum and Buemi completed the leading trio.
Pascal Wehrlein finished fourth for Porsche after winning yesterday’s race, maintaining a strong presence at the sharp end of the order. His session included a close call with another driver, with the pair nearly making contact through the ATTACK MODE section.
Nick Cassidy was fifth for Citroën Racing, while Jake Dennis ended the session eighth for Andretti. Dennis sits five points behind Wehrlein in the drivers’ standings, leaving the championship battle finely poised with the London finale underway.
Mitch Evans endured the most difficult session among the leading contenders. The Jaguar TCS Racing driver encountered technical issues and finished last after his team was unable to confirm the diagnosis. Evans had entered the weekend as a championship hopeful, making the loss of track time particularly significant before qualifying and the race.
Qualifying is scheduled for 10:40 local time, followed by the race at 15:05 BST. With the championship fight reaching its final stages, Evans will need a clear explanation and a reliable Jaguar before the day’s decisive sessions begin.
