TRIDENT has officially confirmed the signing of James Wharton for the 2027 FIA Formula 2 season. The Australian talent is set to make the step up from Formula 3 following a successful two-season tenure in the category, where he secured two victories and a total of four podium finishes.

A Proven Pathway to Formula 2

This move to Formula 2 represents a homecoming of sorts for the driver, as he previously raced for the Italian outfit at Lusail in 2025. “I really can’t put into words what this opportunity for 2027 means to me,” Wharton stated. “To be able to return to TRIDENT after racing with them in 2025 is something really special. We worked very well together and they are a very prestigious team that has done a great job over the last few seasons.”
