George Russell’s recovery prospects and two midfield drivers’ chances of outperforming their recent results feature in Formula 1’s latest Mexico City Grand Prix betting preview.

The 29 October article, supplied by Spotlight Sports Group, highlights Russell for a podium, Liam Lawson for the top six and Nico Hulkenberg for a points finish.

The quoted prices represent different levels of ambition, rather than equally likely outcomes. Each requires a separate assessment of pace, execution and the opposition.

The three published markets

  • George Russell to finish on the podium: 2/1, or 3.00 in decimal odds.
  • Liam Lawson to finish in the top six: 5/1, or 6.00.
  • Nico Hulkenberg to finish in the top ten: 5/2, or 3.50.

These are the source’s prices from 29 October, not a live bookmaker feed. Describing a selection as value also requires a judgement about its probability; a plausible result alone does not establish that the odds are favourable.

Russell needs to recover more than lost track position

Russell finished eighth in Austin, while team-mate Kimi Antonelli won. A five-second penalty complicated his afternoon, but the gap between their results makes a podium in Mexico a recovery target rather than a continuation of recent form.

Mercedes demonstrated its winning potential in Texas. Russell must now extract enough of that performance to compete with the leading Red Bulls and Ferraris.

The penalty offers part of the explanation for Austin, but removing it does not automatically turn eighth place into a podium. Qualifying and practice in Mexico will provide a better indication of whether the performance gap has narrowed.

Lawson’s top-six target requires a larger opportunity

Lawson finished ninth in Austin, immediately behind the eight drivers from Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren.

As covered in our report on Lawson’s confidence after another Racing Bulls points finish, he felt comfortable in the car and believed the team had executed its weekend well.

That supports his midfield credentials. A top-six finish asks considerably more than another points result, however: Lawson would need to beat several drivers who finished ahead of him in Texas.

The source identifies the crowded opening sequence in Mexico as a possible opportunity. Avoiding trouble could help, but incidents cannot be assumed—and Lawson would face the same opening-lap risks as everyone else.

Hulkenberg is close to the points, with little margin for setbacks

Hulkenberg started and finished 11th in Austin. Between those positions, an anti-stall intervention dropped him down the order and forced a recovery.

Our analysis of Audi’s Austin frustration explains why that result offers both encouragement and caution. Hulkenberg recovered the lost places, but could not reach the top ten.

A cleaner start would improve his opportunity in Mexico. It would not guarantee a point: Audi still needs the qualifying position, race pace and strategy to beat its closest midfield rivals.

Of the three selections, Hulkenberg’s target is closest to his latest finishing position. The remaining step is small numerically, but Austin showed how difficult it can be to make on track.
