Kimi Antonelli finished third at the 2026 F1 Mexico City Grand Prix, and that was enough to make him Formula 1 world champion with four races to spare. He is the youngest ever champion and the first Italian to win the title in 73 years.
It should have been Ferrari’s day. Lewis Hamilton took his first pole for the team, then Charles Leclerc ran wide at turn four on lap one, kept the place, and Max Verstappen slipped through to win. Leclerc’s five-second penalty didn’t undo the damage, and the lost points cost Hamilton second in the championship.
Haas stood Esteban Ocon down mid-weekend, and rookie Ryo Hirakawa scored on debut after both Alpines lost their points. What actually happened inside Haas is still unknown.
Di also takes a closer look at Formula 1’s first social impact report.
