Niccolò Maccagnani will step up to the FIA Formula 3 Championship full-time next season after signing with TRIDENT for 2027. The Italian will make his series debut as a rookie, completing the team’s lineup after it confirmed Kean Nakamura-Berta and Sebastian Wheldon.

Maccagnani, a member of the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, has built his single-seater experience across junior categories since making the move in 2025. His latest results include fourth place in the 2026 UAE4 Series, where he recorded two victories and five podium finishes.

The 16-year-old also secured two wins in this year’s Italian F4 Championship. He gained a first taste of Formula 3 competition by taking part in the final round of the season in Madrid.

That appearance preceded a full-time move to the category with TRIDENT. The team has also announced Kean Nakamura-Berta for its 2027 roster, while Sebastian Wheldon is among the squad’s other confirmed drivers. Read more about Wheldon’s TRIDENT seat for 2027 and Nakamura-Berta’s F3 promotion.

Maccagnani finished second in the Formula Trophy in 2025, the year he first moved into single-seaters. His 2026 campaign has added results in both UAE4 and Italian F4, alongside his Formula 3 outing in Madrid.

TRIDENT expects a major step up in competition

Team Manager Giacomo Ricci welcomed Maccagnani’s arrival, pointing to the speed and potential he has shown in the junior formulae. Ricci also recognised that Formula 3 will present a substantial challenge, with higher-performing cars and a more competitive environment than the driver has previously faced.

TRIDENT said it will support Maccagnani as he adapts to the new stage of his career, with the aim of helping him develop and deliver a competitive season. For the Italian, 2027 will be his first full campaign in the category after a progression that has taken him from Formula Trophy and F4 results to a Formula 3 race appearance in Madrid.
