Max Verstappen is trying to fit the 2027 Spa 24 Hours into his Formula 1 schedule, with the Belgian endurance race emerging as a possible GT target for next year.

Verstappen said he would make an effort to compete at Spa-Francorchamps, a circuit he regards as a favourite. He finished ninth at Portimao in the GT World Challenge Europe, sharing a Team Verstappen Mercedes with Chris Lulham and Ben Barnicoat.

The 24-hour race is scheduled for 24–27 June 2027, between the Portuguese and British Grands Prix. Verstappen said preparation and careful planning would be important if he is to take part. He was born in Belgium, and his mother, former kart racer Sophie Kumpen, is Belgian.

Spa could fit alongside Verstappen’s F1 commitments

The calendar leaves Spa as a possible option, but not every major GT event is available to him. Bathurst in February is not understood to be on his radar, while Suzuka clashes with the Formula 1 schedule. The Nürburgring and Spa therefore appear to be the likely endurance races under consideration for 2027.

Verstappen has already sampled the Nürburgring 24 Hours, sharing a car with Dani Juncadella, Lucas Auer and Jules Gounon. Their challenge ended late in the race when a driveshaft problem intervened. F1LivePulse previously covered the mechanical failure that ended Verstappen’s Nürburgring run.

He has spoken positively about sharing a car and learning the demands of endurance racing. The Portimao field also included drivers he has known since karting, as well as competitors with experience across several categories. Verstappen’s stated aim is to improve from race to race and build more experience.

F1 remains Verstappen’s immediate priority

Although Verstappen has criticised the 2026 F1 regulations, he has confirmed a contract extension with Red Bull. The source of his interest in GT racing is a desire to explore another challenge, even after recent wins in Formula 1.

For now, his attention turns back to the United States Grand Prix. He heads into that weekend after victories at Sepang and Singapore, while a Spa appearance remains something he is trying to make work. His potential 2027 programme has also been linked with both Spa and the Nürburgring in coverage of his endurance-racing ambitions.
