Sergio PĂ©rez has found a renewed sense of value and purpose at Cadillac, starkly contrasting his final, turbulent chapter with Red Bull. The Mexican driver recently stated that his feedback on car development is "much more appreciated" at the American team compared to his previous employer, signaling a fundamental shift in how his expertise is being utilized in Formula 1's newest project.
After a difficult 2024 campaign where PĂ©rez collected just 152 points against teammate Max Verstappen's commanding 437, the 36-year-old parted ways with Red Bull. A year spent away from full-time competition provided critical perspective. "Definitely the last six months of my journey with Red Bull were tough in all areas," PĂ©rez reflected. "I really felt like I needed a break." That hiatus proved transformative, allowing him to reassess his priorities and return with clarity about what truly drives his passion for racing.
What distinguishes PĂ©rez's role at Cadillac is the strategic weight his technical feedback now carries in development decisions. Unlike his position as a secondary driver within Red Bull's championship-focused structure, PĂ©rez now serves as a cornerstone of Cadillac's inaugural F1 project. "I feel that definitely my comments are much more valued," he explained, emphasizing how this collaborative approach shapes the team's aerodynamic and setup evolution.
The difference lies in organizational philosophy. At Red Bull, resources flowed primarily toward supporting Verstappen's championship assault. At Cadillac, both driversâPĂ©rez and Valtteri Bottasâfunction as integral development partners whose insights directly influence the MAC-26's progression. "The way the car is being developed and the way we are pushing forward in the same direction helps a lot," PĂ©rez noted.

"You've got someone experienced who can handle the ups and downs with being a first-year team, knows what the car should feel like, and provides that direction from a development standpoint," Towriss explained. PĂ©rez's 15 seasons navigating everything from midfield machinery at Force India to championship-contending Red Bulls provides invaluable institutional knowledge.
Beyond technical contributions, PĂ©rez's mindset has fundamentally shifted. His primary objective is now to "enjoy" racing again "as if it was karting," prioritizing fulfillment alongside performance. This psychological recalibration, combined with genuine appreciation for his input, suggests Cadillac has created an environment where the veteran driver can contribute meaningfully while rediscovering the sport's joy.
