The second half of the 2026 World Endurance Championship will compress four rounds into just over two months, creating an unusually intense run-in after the calendar was reshuffled twice in the wake of the Iran war.
The cancelled Qatar round has been replaced by the championshipâs first visit to Barcelona, while Monza takes the place of Bahrain as the season finale. Those substitutions have changed more than the order of the races: they have also reduced the points available in the title fight.

Both six-hour races will award a maximum of 25 points to the winning crews, compared with the 38 available at the Qatar 1812km and Bahrain 8 Hours, which were bonus-points events. The revised calendar therefore removes 26 points from the championship â effectively the value of a full six-hour race.
With Le Mans awarding double points already completed, roughly 55% of the seasonâs available points has been distributed. The cancellation of Bahrain also increases the importance of the 24-hour classic: a poor result at La Sarthe can no longer be offset as easily by a strong finish in an eight-hour finale. Toyota used that route to overturn Porscheâs advantage and win the manufacturersâ championship in Bahrain in 2024.

Despite the reduced scoring opportunity, the championship remains open. A total of 104 points â including a point for pole position at each round â can still be won across the final races in the Americas, Asia and Europe. No team has scored more than 75 points so far.
Robin Frijns and Rene Rast lead the Hypercar standings jointly with Le Mans winners Kamui Kobayashi, Nyck de Vries and Mike Conway, both crews sitting on 75 points. Sheldon van der Linde is officially third with BMW, but cannot contend for the title after missing the Imola opener because of an IMSA SportsCar Championship clash.
That leaves Ferrariâs James Calado, Antonio Giovinazzi and Alessandro Pier Guidi effectively third on 57 points, just one ahead of Toyotaâs Brendon Hartley, Sebastien Buemi and Ryo Hirakawa. BMW and Toyota are the leading contenders, while Ferrari remains within reach despite not yet winning.
Cadillacâs Norman Nato and Will Stevens are 33 points off the lead in the #12 Jota-entered V-Series.R. In the manufacturersâ contest, Toyota leads BMW by five points, with Ferrari 39 points further back.

Barcelona offers limited recent WEC reference, although several manufacturers have tested there and some LMGT3 teams have raced at the circuit in GT World Challenge Europe. The scheduleâs wider impact on that category is also reflected in the WEC and GT World Challenge clash forcing a Portimao schedule change.
Monza, by contrast, was a WEC fixture from 2021 to 2023, leaving teams with substantial data from the 5.7km circuit. Its long straights will again make top speed, low drag and Balance of Performance especially influential. Those very different challenges mean Toyotaâs established strength at Bahrain and Ferrariâs podium lockout at Losail offer no guarantee of what comes next.
