2026 Azerbaijan GP track map reveals two Straight Mode Zones
The updated track map for the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix has been revealed, showing how Formula 1's new Straight Mode and Overtake Mode systems will operate around the Baku City Circuit.
At 6.003km, Baku remains one of the most extreme circuits on the calendar, combining the tight and technical old-city section with enormous flat-out sections. The long run towards Turn 1 has traditionally been the circuit's primary overtaking opportunity.
Two Straight Mode zones in Baku
The new map features two Straight Mode zones. The first is located on the long acceleration section between Turns 2 and 3, while the second covers Baku's huge main straight from Turn 20 towards Turn 1. Straight Mode is part of Formula 1's 2026 active aerodynamics package, moving the front and rear wing elements into a lower-drag configuration on designated sections. Unlike the old DRS system, it is available to all drivers rather than only a chasing car within one second.
Overtake Mode sets up the attack towards Turn 1
The Overtake Mode detection point is positioned shortly after Turn 16, with the activation point further along the approach to Turn 17.
A driver within the required one-second gap at detection can gain access to Overtake Mode, providing additional electrical deployment to help attack the car ahead.
That positioning looks particularly significant in Baku. Drivers who stay close through Turn 16 can carry the Overtake advantage through the final flat-out sequence before combining it with Straight Mode and the slipstream on the enormous main straight. With top speed already such a critical part of racing in Azerbaijan, the new 2026 systems could make the run towards Turn 1 even more important.
