2026 United States Grand Prix track map updated with 2 Straight Mode zones

The updated 2026 United States Grand Prix track map highlights two Straight Mode zones at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas, alongside separate Overtake Mode detection and activation points.

The 5.513km, 20-corner circuit retains its familiar layout. The new markers explain where drivers can reduce aerodynamic drag and where eligibility for additional electrical performance is determined.

Where are COTA’s two Straight Mode zones?

The map marks two sections in red:

  • Back straight, between Turns 11 and 12: the long acceleration stretch following the tight Turn 11 hairpin.
  • Start-finish straight, between Turns 20 and 1: the uphill run towards Austin’s signature opening corner.

Straight Mode adjusts both the front and rear wings into a lower-drag configuration. It is available to all drivers in designated zones when conditions permit, without requiring them to follow another car within one second. The wings return to their high-downforce configuration for cornering.

Where are the Overtake Mode detection and activation points?

The supplied map places Overtake Detection just after Turn 20, followed by Overtake Activation further along the start-finish straight, before the start-finish line.

These markers serve different purposes. Detection establishes whether a driver is close enough to the car ahead to qualify; activation marks where that entitlement becomes available.

Under the 2026 rules, a driver within one second at detection receives access to additional electrical energy harvesting and a deployment profile that can sustain higher speeds for longer on the following lap. Overtake Mode is an electrical aid, separate from Straight Mode’s aerodynamic changes.

Why the Austin layout matters

Both straights lead into heavy braking zones, making Turns 1 and 12 natural focal points for attacks. A strong exit from Turn 20 could therefore help a driver secure Overtake Mode eligibility and prepare a challenge uphill.
