Alpine appoints Mercedes' Mike Elliott as Chief Technical Officer

Alpine has announced the appointment of Mike Elliott as chief technical officer of its Formula 1 team, adding significant championship-winning experience to its Enstone technical division.

A Return to Enstone

The move marks a homecoming for Elliott, who previously operated as the squad’s principal aerodynamicist during its Renault and Lotus eras. Following his earlier stint at Enstone, Elliott joined Mercedes as head of aerodynamics, playing a central role in preparing the squad for the 2014 regulations.

“He has a proven track record in the sport, having contributed to an impressive eight constructors’ and eight drivers’ championships,” Alpine stated. “Elliott’s arrival at Enstone strengthens the team’s technical capabilities as the team looks to build on the improved performances on track and close the gap to the top four teams.”

Pushing Forward Under the 2026 Regulations

Alpine's technical reinforcement arrives during an encouraging start to the 2026 regulations. Having sacrificed the previous campaign to direct focus toward the current ruleset, the squad is actively battling Racing Bulls for fifth place in the constructors' championship.

Furthermore, the 2026 season represents a notable milestone for the Anglo-French team as its first year competing as a Mercedes customer outfit. As Alpine seeks to bridge the deficit to the sport's benchmark squads, Elliott’s experience across dominant championship campaigns will be tasked with steering Enstone’s engineering direction, while competitors across the grid continue to adapt—such as Williams aiming to make a huge step with their B-spec car in Baku in the tight midfield fight.
