Alpine faces crucial decision as Geely emerges as potential Hypercar partner

The future of Alpine’s Hypercar programme is reaching a critical juncture. Philippe Sinault, the veteran team manager, has indicated that a decision regarding the team's direction could arrive at any moment, as intense negotiations continue to shape the next chapter of its endurance racing ambitions.

Geely in the Spotlight

While various manufacturers have been linked to the project, speculation has increasingly pointed toward Chinese automotive giant Geely as the frontrunner for the acquisition. While Sinault has avoided explicitly naming the manufacturer, he confirmed that discussions are progressing at pace.

“I expect each day now because time is running [out],” Sinault told Motorsport.com. “But we are still on time to react and to do well for the future. So, we are waiting for it.”

Technical Readiness and Styling Shifts

A key component of any potential takeover involves the aesthetic integration of the new brand. The current A424 features design cues reminiscent of Alpine road cars, such as its signature tail lamps. However, Sinault emphasized that adapting the prototype's styling to meet a new manufacturer's requirements would be a relatively simple task.

“Yes, but it's easy to handle. The main subject is not this,” he explained, stressing that the priority remains securing a clear long-term vision.

Preparing for 2027

The lack of private testing since May is a direct consequence of this period of transition. While the team has focused on securing its future following the Le Mans 24 Hours, Sinault maintains that the technical foundation remains solid. Although the uncertainty prevented a major evolution update this year, the team continues to push on track to ensure they are prepared for the 2027 campaign.

Even as the team manages the A424's performance challenges, the focus remains firmly on the "green light" that will define the next era of their Hypercar project.
